PAWEŁ GROBELNY “FORM”
Exhibitions
„Form” installation in situ
„Form” exhibition that we are presenting during Łódź Design Festival has its Polish premiere. Previously it was presented in Paris in 2012 during Paris Design Week.
A set of geometrical forms of constructivist provenance creates installations at the interface of pure art and a functional object, which perfectly suits the artistic oeuvre.
A minimalist form and playing with the balance is a continued exploration of the boundaries between non-functional and functional objects, launched earlier by the Un/functional design. Structures are so balanced that after filling them up with books or magazines, they become stable, thus changing their function. Using these objects makes them transform from abstract structures into functional furniture.
Paweł Grobelny – designer, exhibition curator and lecturer working in Poland and abroad. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań, Lyon and Paris. He received grants from the Government of France in Paris, as part of Casa de Velázquez program in Madrid and Residency Unlimited program in New York. In 2009, he was selected in Brussels to the prestigious group of “100 Young Creative Talents” in the framework of the Year of Creativity and Innovation of the European Union. His works are in the collections of, among others, the Design Museum in Munich and the National Museum in Warsaw.
Apart from designing for the industry, Paweł Grobelny also designs his own collections, often commissioned by galleries and cultural institutions. His works have been presented at such events as Vienna Design Week, Paris Design Week, Tokyo Design Week, Seoul Design Olympiad and Biennale Design Saint-Etienne.
Apart from designing, he deals with curator projects. He is the curator of the exhibition series “Unpolished. Young Design from Poland” and “Polished up. Design from Poland” (together with Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka) popularizing Polish design abroad. The Unpolished exhibition, which won the curatorial contest organized by the Design Museum in Helsinki in 2011 as part of the World Design Capital, was presented among others at the Museum of Modern Art in Bucharest, the Museum of Applied Arts in Budapest, the Museum of Design in Cologne and the Korea Foundation in Seoul, as well as during the Inno Design Tech Expo in Hong Kong. In 2011, Paweł Grobelny was also the curator of the exhibition “Design: Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia”. He is particularly interested in projects combining art and design. He gets on well both with the industry and with cultural institutions.
Apart from designing and curatorship he also writes about design for 2+3D, a design quarterly.
