Pré-Pénétrables
Exhibitions
The exhibition is devoted to one of the most iconic works by Jesús Rafael Soto.
The concept of „ Pénétrables” was created at the end of 1960, as an effect of previous experimentation with the use of colourful nylon threads hanged from specifically designed constructions. From that time onwards Soto had presented many works from this series at several small galleries, large museums and outdoor spaces. One of the most spectacular installations was created at the exhibition Expo in Sevilla in 1992. In 2010 Signum Foundation showed installation “Pénétrables” at the exhibition “Lumière et mouvemen” at Palazzo Donà, Venetian space of the foundation. It was then that a contemporary artist – Michal Martychowiec – was commissioned to create a personal artistic documentation inspired, among others, by then dead Jesús Rafael Soto.
The following project consists of a series of video and photographic works under the common title “Blue Red Green”. It conveys Martychowiec’s personal narration of new contexts through a mosaic consisting of documented elements (through video or photography) of other artists’ works.
At the current exhibition we are presenting Soto’s installation through works of this artist.
However, the source for creation of Soto’s „ Pénétrables” lays in preceding paintings-objects consisting of refined spatial structures inspired by the music of Pierre Bouleza. The works from this particular period are being presented at this exhibition: „ Vibration à droite” , 1969 and „La courve bleue”, 1965.
Jesús Rafael Soto/ 1923 – 2005/, Venezuelan born artist, his artistic career started with his arrival in Paris in 1950.
